PM Modi expressed grief on demise of the renowned singer, and said that the latter made an invaluable contribution to establishing Indian tradition on the global stage.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday remembered the renowned Hindustani classical vocalist and Padma Vibhushan awardee Pandit Chhannulal Mishra, and extended condolences after his demise. Sharing pictures with Channulal from his X handle, PM Modi said Mishra “remained dedicated throughout his life to the enrichment of Indian art and culture.”

“I am deeply saddened by the demise of the renowned classical singer Pandit Channulal Mishra ji. He remained dedicated throughout his life to the enrichment of Indian art and culture. Along with taking classical music to the masses, he also made an invaluable contribution to establishing Indian tradition on the global stage,” wrote the Prime Minister.
“It is my good fortune that I always received his affection and blessings. In the year 2014, he was also my proposer from the Varanasi seat. In this hour of grief, I express my deepest condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti!,” he added.

Chhannulal Mishra passed away at 89 in the early hours of Thursday. His health worsened late on Wednesday night, after which he was admitted to a hospital in Mirzapur, where he died during treatment around 4 AM. He is survived by three daughters and a son. His wife had passed away four years ago.
