What began as an online romance on Instagram turned into a chilling case of betrayal and murder in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur.

Police said 20-year-old Aakanksha was killed by her live-in partner, 23-year-old electrician Suraj Kumar Uttam, after he suspected her of being involved with another man.

Investigators revealed that the couple had a heated argument on July 21, during which Suraj allegedly slammed Aakanksha’s head against a wall before strangling her.

He then called his friend, Ashish Kumar, to help dispose of the body.

The two men stuffed her remains into a bag and set off on a motorcycle towards Banda, nearly 100 km away, intending to dump it in the Yamuna River.

Shockingly, before doing so, Suraj paused to click a selfie with the bag, later recovered from his phone.

The crime began to unravel after Aakanksha’s mother filed a missing complaint on August 8, accusing Suraj of kidnapping her daughter.

Police detained Suraj and Ashish on Thursday, and during interrogation, both confessed to the murder.

According to police, Suraj initially tried to mislead investigators but broke down when confronted with phone records showing his conversations with the victim.

He admitted that he and Aakanksha had met on Instagram, later developing a relationship that led them to move in together in a rented house in Hanumant Vihar.

Before that, Aakanksha had been living with her sister in Kanpur’s Barra area while working at a local restaurant.

Both Suraj and Ashish have been arrested and sent to jail, while police continue to piece together the full chain of events that led to the killing.
