Uttar Pradesh has put itself on the global infrastructure map by breaking multiple world records with the construction of the Ganga Expressway, which is India’s longest expressway. The achievement came after the construction teams laid 10 kilometres of crash barriers and 34.24 lane kilometres of bituminous concrete in just 24 hours, setting a new benchmark and scripting records.

The barriers and concrete were laid by Adani Road and Transport Limited (ARTL), an Adani Group company, in partnership with Patel Infrastructure Limited. The record-breaking expressway was constructed between Hardoi and Unnao districts and has been officially certified by the Golden Book of World Records, Asia Book of Records and India Book of Records.

In his congratulatory message on the social media platform X, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath hailed the achievement, writing, “New heights for Uttar Pradesh! In only 24 hours, 10 km of crash barriers and 34.24 lane km of bituminous concrete were completed, earning two world records.”

He credited the success to the Uttar Pradesh Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), calling it “the result of excellent planning, technical proficiency and committed teamwork.” According to the Chief Minister, Uttar Pradesh is fast emerging as “an infrastructure state of global standards” under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Construction Of The Expressway

According to an official statement, the construction of the expressway utilised 20,105 metric tonnes of material and covered a surface area of 171,210 square metres. Alongside this, 10 kilometres of metal beam crash barriers were installed within the same 24-hour window.

Arvind Patel, Managing Director of Patel Infrastructure Ltd, expressed pride in the record-breaking achievement, saying, “We are proud to be contributing to nation-building through such monumental achievements. This is not just a record, it’s a reflection of Indian engineering brilliance and our team’s unwavering spirit.”

What Is The Ganga Expressway

The 594-km Ganga Expressway will link 12 districts from Meerut to Prayagraj, with an extension to Ballia, which would make it the longest expressway in India. It has been designed to ensure reduced travel time and fuel costs. The project was originally planned for completion before the Maha Kumbh 2025, but is currently facing delays. It is now expected to be inaugurated by the end of the year.
