In a shocking incident, a 20-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj allegedly cut off his genitals after he expressed his desire to become a girl. The at-home procedure, however, went wrong, and he had to be rushed to the hospital bleeding profusely, police said.

The man, a native of Amethi district, who is preparing for government competitive exams, took the extreme step on the advice of a local doctor he found online, news agency PTI reported.

Dr Santosh from Swaroop Rani Nehru (SRN) Hospital told reporters that the man used a surgical blade to mutilate his private part following someone’s advice.

“He lost a lot of blood but is now out of danger. He is undergoing proper treatment,” Dr Santosh said.

While interacting with the doctors, the man reportedly claimed that he felt like a girl despite having a male body.

“He said his voice, mannerisms and gait made him feel as if he was a girl,” Dr Santosh said.

The youth told doctors he first felt different at age 14 while dancing with girls at a family function. He thought he was one of them, though he looked like a boy. Being the only son, he never shared this with his parents. Later, during graduation, he moved to Prayagraj to prepare for the competitive exams.

The man, living in a rented room in Praygraj, allegedly watched videos online and consulted a local doctor to learn more about the surgical process for sex change.

Acting on his own, he administered anaesthesia and used a surgical blade to bobbitise himself. However, as soon as the anaesthesia wore off, he experienced unbearable pain. As his condition worsened, he sought help from his landlord, who rushed him to the hospital.

“I did not feel much pain when the anaesthesia was effective. However, as its effect wore off, the pain became unbearable and the bleeding worsened. I then sought help from people, who brought me to the hospital,” the man said.

His mother reached the hospital in tears. “He was my only son. We are not well-educated, but the doctor should have told us. I sent him to Prayagraj hoping he would become an IAS officer. I never knew he felt this way,” she said as quoted by BhaskarEnglish.
