Delhi-NCR residents woke up to fresh spells of rain on Monday morning, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a Yellow Alert, predicting that light showers, accompanied by thunderstorms, may continue throughout the day.

Several areas in Delhi, Noida, and Ghaziabad witnessed light showers early Monday, with visuals showing rainfall and waterlogging across parts of the capital.

The weather department’s latest nowcast indicates that intermittent rain is likely to persist through the day, potentially disrupting traffic movement in the region.

“Light to moderate rainfall accompanied with light thunderstorm and lightning is very likely to occur at many places of Delhi , NCR ( Greater Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, Manesar, Ballabhgarh, Bahadurgarh), Kaithal, Narwana, Rajaund, Assandh, Safidon, Barwala, Jind, Gohana, Rohtak, Kharkhoda, Jhajjar, Farukhnagar, Sohana, Palwal, Nuh, Aurangabad, Hodal (Haryana) Jattari (U.P.) during next 2 hours,” the Regional Met Centre New Delhi said today morning.

The Regional Weather Forecasting Centre in New Delhi has predicted light to moderate showers with thunderstorms in the national capital through August 30.

Sunday’s heavy downpour left several parts of Delhi waterlogged and caused major traffic snarls.

Rainfall was recorded in areas including Preet Vihar, Rajeev Chowk, ITO, Jafarpur, India Gate, Akshardham, Safdarjung, and Lodi Road.

Localities such as Nehru Stadium, Defence Colony, Lajpat Nagar, Kalkaji, Ayanagar, and Deramandi also received significant showers in the evening.

SpiceJet Advisory

Following the weekend rains and Monday morning showers, SpiceJet issued a travel advisory for passengers.

“Due to bad weather (heavy rain) in Delhi (DEL), all departures/arrivals and their consequential flights may be affected. Passengers are requested to keep a check on their flight status,” the airline stated on X.

Meanwhile, other carriers, including IndiGo, Air India, and Akasa Air have not issued any advisories for passengers as of Monday.
