Another Alleged Pakistani Spy Nabbed In Haryana, Police Questioning Underway

After Rajasthan, now Haryana police have arrested a man named Taufiq from Hathin Khand for allegedly spying for Pakistan. According to authorities, Taufiq had visited Pakistan in 2022 and was subsequently cultivated as a source for Pakistani intelligence. Investigations indicate that, as in previous cases, he provided information regarding troop movements to Pakistan.

During the arrest, the Haryana Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) recovered Taufiq’s mobile phone, which reportedly contained chat messages corroborating his involvement in espionage. Officials stated that he had also admitted to sending individuals to Pakistan. Police are currently interrogating him to uncover the full extent of his activities and any potential accomplices.

This arrest follows a similar case in Rajasthan, where Hanif Khan, a resident of Basanpir Juni, Jaisalmer, was arrested by the Rajasthan CID Intelligence. Khan was accused of sending confidential information about army movements to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), including during Operation Sindoor.

Dr Vishnukant, IGP CID (Security), told ANI that investigations revealed Khan was in constant contact with Pakistani intelligence via social media. “During interrogation, it was revealed that he possessed information about important military installations and troop movements. Even during Operation Sindoor, he was in contact with a Pakistani handler and was sharing information about troop movements,” he said. A case was registered under the Official Secrets Act, 1923.

Pak using social media as an espionage tool

Both cases highlight the growing concern over the misuse of social media platforms for intelligence gathering. Authorities have emphasised that foreign intelligence agencies often exploit seemingly innocuous communication channels to gather sensitive information. The recovered digital evidence from Taufiq’s phone mirrors findings in previous arrests, underlining the need for stringent monitoring of suspicious contacts and activities.

Haryana police continue to interrogate Taufiq to determine whether he acted alone or as part of a larger network. Authorities are also reviewing his communications and movements to assess the scope of the information he may have transmitted to Pakistani handlers.

Security experts have reiterated that vigilance remains crucial at border states, particularly in regions where military operations and troop movements are sensitive.
