The police arrested a man in Agra’s Malpura for allegedly killing his 19-year-old nephew, stuffing the body into a drum and setting it on fire, after being blackmailed with photographs of his minor daughter. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Atul Sharma said the incident took place on February 18 last year but the victim was identified much later through DNA profiling. The accused, Deviram, was taken into custody.

According to investigators, the victim Rakesh was lured to Deviram’s shop, where he and another nephew, Nitya Kishore, allegedly strangled him. The duo then placed the body in a blue drum, transported it in a loader vehicle to an isolated spot and set it ablaze after dousing it with petrol.

The charred remains were eventually traced back to Rakesh following forensic examination, enabling police to crack the case. Police said the killing stemmed from a family dispute, as Deviram was enraged over Rakesh allegedly taking photographs of his minor daughter and blackmailing him.

The main accused, Deviram, son of Shankar Singh Baghel of Kuboolpur village, has been arrested while co-accused Nitya Kishore remains absconding. Investigators also revealed that the victim’s mobile phone was thrown into the Khari River after the crime in an attempt to destroy evidence.

A detailed probe is underway, police said.
