Discovery Of The Bodies
On Thursday morning, villagers spotted the remains in a water-filled field. Kishori’s body was severely decomposed with only bones visible in some areas while Umakant’s body was also mutilated, as per the report. Chief Officer Bhognipur Sanjay Singh and Musanagar Station Officer Kalicharan rushed to the scene. A forensic team assisted police in collecting evidence for the investigation.
Identification Of The Victims
The report mentioned that police found an Aadhaar card in Umakant’s pocket which led them to Mahavir, a resident of Kharatla in Rajpur, Shahjahanpur. Mahavir confirmed the young man was his 22-year-old son, Umakant. The girl was later identified as Umakant’s 16-year-old sister-in-law, Kishori, based on her clothing and appearance after her relatives arrived at the site.
Background And Possible Motive
Family members said the girl had gone missing on September 25 while Umakant disappeared on Sunday, September 28. As per the report, Mahavir suggested the deaths could be linked to a romantic relationship between the two. The presence of poison near the bodies has led police to consider the possibility of suicide.
Family Details and Circumstances
According to Amar Ujala, Umakant lived in a rented home in Rajpur with his wife and two children: a three-year-old son and a four-month-old daughter. He ran a gol gappa (street food) stall and had been married for three years.
His wife revealed that soon after their marriage, Umakant developed a relationship with her younger sister. This led to constant arguments with Umakant reportedly pressuring his wife to allow her sister to stay with them and threatening to leave if she refused.
She further stated that the couple had an argument on Sunday after which Umakant did not return home.
Investigation And Police Action
Station Officer Kalicharan said that the bodies appeared to have been at the site for four to five days. He added that it seemed both had consumed poison and collapsed at the same location. The report also mentioned that Kishori’s disappearance had been reported at Deorahat police station but the initial investigation was negligent. The officer in charge was suspended for failing to inform senior authorities and mishandling the case.
Police continue to examine multiple angles. The post-mortem report and formal complaints are awaited to guide further action.
