Caroline Flack’s mum reveals ‘biggest regret’ in new film

The mother of TV presenter Caroline Flack has revealed her “biggest regret” in a new two-part documentary exploring the final months of her daughter’s life.

Flack, who grew up in Norfolk, took her own life at the age of 40 in February 2020. Her mental health had deteriorated while she was facing trial for allegedly assaulting her boyfriend.

In an upcoming documentary titled Caroline Flack: Search For The Truth, her mother Christine Flack says she will not stop speaking about “what some awful people drove you to”.

The film features interviews with Flack’s family and close friends and is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ on Monday, 10 November.

Before her death, Caroline Flack was best known for presenting ITV reality dating show Love Island, a role she held from 2015 to 2019.

In 2014, she won the 12th series of Strictly Come Dancing, lifting the glitterball trophy alongside her professional dance partner, Pasha Kovalev.

In the new documentary, Christine Flack seeks to understand the events that led to the final months of her daughter’s life.

In a first-look trailer, she says: “Another lonely year has passed. I missed you just as much today as the day you left.

“I’m doing my very best to tell the world what some awful people drove you to. I won’t give up.”

Speaking to her children about the investigation, she said: “I just hope I can achieve something, and as long as you all don’t mind me doing it, I’ll go ahead.

“I think Caroline would be pleased with what I’m doing. I wish I’d done it then, before she took her own life, and that’s my biggest regret, that I wasn’t shouting like this then, but now I’ve got nothing to lose.

“The worst thing in the world happened with losing Carrie.”

Caroline Flack took her own life in February 2020, after learning that prosecutors intended to pursue an assault charge over an incident involving her boyfriend, Lewis Burton, in December 2019.

Coroner Mary Hassell found that Flack took her own life because she knew she was being prosecuted and could not face the extensive media scrutiny that would accompany the trial.

Christine Flack has since accused the police and prosecutors of targeting her daughter due to her celebrity status, saying they “had it in for her” and pursued the case unnecessarily.
