The anniversary drive, which began in Stuttgart, is touring 140 locations worldwide before concluding in Germany later this year.Mercedes-Benz’s global “140 Years. 140 Places.” anniversary convoy has arrived at its Research and Development India (MBRDI) centre in Bengaluru, marking a milestone in the automaker’s global celebration of 140 years since the invention of the automobile.
The convoy includes two S-Class saloons—Carl Benz and Bertha Benz—named after the pioneers of the automobile. The vehicles are part of a transcontinental journey covering over 40,000 km across 23 countries and five continents before returning to Stuttgart in October.
The Bengaluru stop also coincides with MBRDI’s 30th anniversary. The centre, established in 1996, is Mercedes-Benz Group’s largest research and development facility outside Germany and employs more than 8,500 professionals across Bengaluru and Pune.
According to the company, employees participated in technology demonstrations highlighting engineering innovations integrated into the S-Class, many of which MBRDI helped develop.
“To welcome the 140-year celebration at Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India, in the same year that we mark 30 years of this centre, is both an honour and a reminder that every chapter in our history continues to inspire what comes next,” said Manu Saale, Managing Director and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India.
