Maruti Suzuki India is on course to export over four lakh vehicles in the current financial year, having shipped more than two lakh units during April–September, PTI reported quoting a senior company executive.

The country’s largest carmaker reported a 52 per cent year-on-year rise in exports to 42,204 units in September, compared with 27,728 units in the same month last year.

Exports double that of nearest competitor

“In Q1, we exported about 1.10 lakh units, and in the first half (April–September), we have done over 2.07 lakh units. So, we are on track to achieve the four lakh unit forecast that we have given,” said Rahul Bharti, Senior Executive Officer – Corporate Affairs, Maruti Suzuki India. He added that the company’s exports are more than double those of its nearest domestic competitor.

“Normally, we talk about cut-throat competition. There are 18 players in the market… the exports of Maruti Suzuki are more than double our nearest exporter in the country,” said Bharti.

He also noted that about four years ago, the company did about one lakh unit exports in a year, but this time in the second quarter, over one lakh units have been done.

In FY 2020–21, Maruti Suzuki’s total exports stood at 96,139 units.

Electric exports and key markets

The company has also exported 6,068 units of its electric model, the eVITARA, in August and September. “We think it’s a very strong statement for Make in India and for the world,” Bharti added. He said India’s recent free trade agreements have supported the growth of overseas car shipments.

Maruti Suzuki’s sub-four metre models — Fronx, Jimny, Swift, Baleno and Dzire — were the most exported during April–September. The top markets for the company in this period were South Africa, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Chile, and Colombia
