Kia India’s mid-size SUV Seltos has secured a 5-star safety rating under the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (Bharat NCAP), with near-perfect scores in both adult and child occupant protection, the company said in a press release on Monday.

According to the Bharat NCAP fact sheet, the Kia Seltos scored 31.70 out of 32 in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and 45 out of 49 in Child Occupant Protection (COP).

The tested vehicle model and variant included the Kia Seltos HTE (O) and GTX (D1.5 CRDi VGT 6AT). The crash test weight of the SUV was recorded at 1,771 kg, and the model tested was manufactured in India.

Crash test performance

In adult occupant protection, the Seltos scored 15.70 out of 16 in the frontal offset deformable barrier test and a full 16 out of 16 in the side movable deformable barrier test. The side pole impact test was marked “OK”, as per the fact sheet.

In child occupant protection, the SUV achieved a dynamic score of 24 out of 24, a CRS installation score of 12 out of 12, and a vehicle assessment score of 9 out of 13, taking the total COP score to 45 out of 49.

The fact sheet notes that the Seltos comes with Electronic Stability Control as standard. Curtain airbags and seat belt reminders are also listed as standard safety assist technologies, along with pedestrian protection.

The rating applies to a wide range of Seltos variants across petrol and diesel powertrains, including multiple trims such as HTE, HTK, HTX, GTX and X Line, as per the annexure.

Kia India had said in February that the Seltos has crossed the six lakh cumulative sales milestone in India since its launch in 2019, reinforcing its position as one of the segment’s consistent volume drivers.
