Google co-founder Sergey Brin turned his $450 million superyacht into a floating headquarters with an entire deck dedicated to work

For many of the world’s wealthiest people, a superyacht is the ultimate escape from work, offering privacy, luxury and a chance to disconnect. Google co-founder Sergey Brin, however, appears to have taken a very different approach. His 466-foot (142.1-metre) superyacht, Dragonfly, reportedly includes an entire deck dedicated to business, allowing him to continue working while cruising across the world’s oceans. Built by the renowned German shipyard Lürssen and delivered in 2024, the vessel combines luxury with functionality, reflecting Brin’s reputation as a hands-on entrepreneur who returned to Google’s artificial intelligence efforts after the generative AI boom. Rather than being simply a lavish retreat, Dragonfly has effectively become a floating headquarters.

A superyacht designed around work rather than leisure

Dragonfly is among the largest private yachts ever built by German shipbuilder Lürssen. Measuring 466 feet (142.1 metres), it was delivered in 2024 and ranks among the company’s biggest projects. The yacht was designed by renowned naval architect Germán Frers, while Italian design studio Nauta Design created its interiors and outdoor social spaces. Unlike most luxury yachts, where entire decks are reserved for guest cabins, spas or entertainment, Dragonfly reportedly devotes a substantial section of the vessel to productivity. Lürssen has confirmed that the yacht includes a dedicated business deck featuring a private office, a gym, a games room and a concealed helicopter hangar, making it one of the most unusual workspaces ever built at sea.

Why Dragonfly’s business deck stands out

The dedicated office is the defining feature of Dragonfly. Although Lürssen has not disclosed its exact dimensions, the workspace is believed to occupy a significant portion of the business deck. Industry observers estimate that the office, together with its surrounding facilities, represents a sizeable commitment to creating a functional workplace rather than simply another luxury lounge. The concealed helicopter hangar further supports this concept. Built inside the yacht’s superstructure, it allows passengers to arrive or depart quickly without depending on ports or tenders. While detailed internal layouts have not been made public, the combination of a private office and aviation facilities reflects a design focused on convenience for an owner managing global business interests.

Hybrid engineering beneath the luxury

Dragonfly is powered by Lürssen’s advanced diesel-electric hybrid propulsion system. The setup combines diesel engines, controllable-pitch propellers, power take-in/power take-off (PTI/PTO) units and an electric azimuth pod drive to improve efficiency and operational flexibility during long-distance voyages.Hybrid propulsion can also reduce machinery noise and vibration when operating in electric mode, creating a quieter onboard environment. Although Lürssen has not specifically described this as an office feature, such engineering could provide a more comfortable setting for meetings, video calls and focused work while at sea.

Sergey Brin’s return to Google’s AI race

Brin stepped away from Alphabet’s day-to-day management in 2019, but his involvement increased dramatically after the rapid rise of generative artificial intelligence. Reports indicate that he has worked closely with Google’s engineering teams, contributing to AI development and helping accelerate the company’s Gemini models. His work ethic attracted widespread attention in 2025 when an internal memo, first reported by The New York Times, described 60 hours per week as the “sweet spot of productivity”. Brin also encouraged employees working on Google’s AI projects to spend every weekday in the office, arguing that the race towards artificial general intelligence required exceptional commitment.

A billionaire who never seems to switch off

Dragonfly appears to mirror Brin’s personal philosophy towards work. Rather than separating business from leisure, the yacht integrates both into a single environment. The inclusion of a dedicated office, business facilities and advanced engineering suggests that productivity remained a central consideration throughout its design.Today, Brin remains one of the richest people in the world, with Forbes estimating his fortune at around $266 billion, although the figure changes with market movements. For someone overseeing investments, artificial intelligence initiatives and philanthropic projects, a conventional office may not always be enough. Dragonfly demonstrates how modern technology and luxury can merge to create a workplace capable of travelling anywhere in the world.

More than a luxury yacht

Dragonfly is not simply another billionaire superyacht filled with lavish amenities. Its defining feature is the way it reimagines what a workplace can look like. By incorporating an entire business deck into one of the world’s largest private yachts, the vessel reflects the changing lifestyles of technology entrepreneurs whose work rarely stops, regardless of where they are. While most people view the open sea as a place to disconnect, Brin’s floating headquarters suggests that for some of Silicon Valley’s biggest innovators, inspiration and business continue long after leaving the shore behind.
