Italian luxury sports car maker Ferrari on Monday ruled out any copyright issues for its forthcoming new electric vehicle, the “Luce”, which ‌uses the same nameplate as cars previously sold by Mazda.

“We hold the right to use the ‘Ferrari Luce’ trademark internationally, by virtue of our registration under international law,” the company said in ‌a statement.

“As always, we carried out prior searches, they did not identify any third-party rights in conflict with our rights,” it added.

The statement follows press reports suggesting that Mazda could block Ferrari from using the “Luce” ‌nameplate, since the Japanese company previously used it for models it sold on the domestic market.

“Luce” means light in Italian.

The electric Ferrari, a first for the company, is due to be unveiled on May 25.
