BYD, a leading new energy vehicle manufacturer, on Wednesday debuted at the Japan Mobility Show 2025 with the BYD RACCO, a lightweight all-electric K-EV for the Japanese market, and the SEALION 6 DM-i, its first plug-in hybrid for the country.

The move marks the launch of BYD’s dual ‘EV + PHEV’ strategy in the country, the company said in a press release.

“From e-buses to e-cars and now our Super Hybrid DM-i models, BYD has always aimed to offer safe, efficient, and high-quality new energy vehicles suited to Japan’s needs. We will keep strengthening our services, expanding our lineup, and working with Japanese customers toward a more sustainable future,” said Liu Xueliang, General Manager, BYD Asia-Pacific Auto Sales Division.

Under the theme ‘ONE BYD’, the company showcased both passenger and commercial vehicles, demonstrating a comprehensive lineup integrating hybrid and pure-electric technologies for Japan. The display also included the BYD ATTO 3, BYD DOLPHIN, BYD SEAL, and the YANGWANG U9 supercar from its premium brand.

BYD’s commercial vehicle arm

On the commercial vehicle front, the firm unveiled the BYD T35 – all-electric truck – and J6 Living Car Concept, alongside the J7 medium-sized and K8 large electric buses.

The T35, tailored to Japanese regulations, features BYD’s Blade Battery and is expected to enter the market in 2026. Since 2015, BYD has sold about 500 e-buses in Japan, leading the country’s electric bus segment and supporting cleaner public transport.

The company’s Asia-Pacific operations extend across 20-plus countries, covering passenger cars, commercial vehicles, forklifts, and rail transit systems. With the RACCO K-EV, the SEALION 6 DM-i, and customised commercial EVs, it continues to localise innovation, strengthen its network, and contribute to the evolution of Japan’s new energy vehicle ecosystem.
