Aishwarya Rai explains why she keeps social media minimal

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan explains why she keeps social media minimal, 'I'm certainly not going to follow the expected'

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan made a powerful statement at the Red Sea Film Festival 2025—not just with her stunning appearance but with her candid reflections on why she chooses to stay minimally active on social media. The actress, who has maintained one of the most low-key digital footprints among global celebrities, said her deliberate approach is rooted in self-assurance, not pressure.Speaking about the choices she has made throughout her long-standing career, Aishwarya emphasised that “insecurity has never been the driving force” behind anything she has done—on-screen or online.

‘I’m a quiet rebel there’

The star opened up about her thought process behind using just one platform and keeping her posts sparse and unembellished.“So evidently, to those who have visited my one and only social media engagement platform, it’s almost been quite shy-like and basic… I’m quite a quiet rebel there,” she said. She added that she consciously avoids following expected patterns of celebrity behaviour online, “I was like, no, I’m certainly not going to follow the expected… I kind of wanted to set an example, but make a statement of telling people to liberate yourself from fooling yourself into believing that this is what you need to feel validated.” Reflecting on her artistic journey, from winning Miss World 1994 to debuting with Mani Ratnam’s Iruvar, Aishwarya said she has always chosen projects with conviction rather than fear of judgment. Her composed attitude toward social media, she noted, comes from the same place of inner clarity.

Aishwarya also spoke warmly about her daughter Aaradhya, recalling their many years of attending the Cannes Film Festival together. She said the event now feels familiar to her daughter, who enjoys the atmosphere and reconnects with friends.Addressing the viral videos of Aaradhya walking with her at Cannes, Aishwarya clarified that none of it was staged for publicity—it was simply natural moments captured by fans. Despite her minimal online presence, Aishwarya set the internet aflame when she posted pictures from the festival. The Devdas star looked radiant in a sleek black gown paired with a striking emerald-green pendant. Her soft-curl hairstyle with a side part marked a refreshing departure from her usual centre-parted look.
