Soon after his name was announced by the INDIA bloc, Reddy, while speaking to CNN-News18, said, “It’s the same responsibility as that of the Supreme Court judge. The objective is to uphold the Constitution.”

“The role is to propagate the idea of Constitution,” the former Supreme Court judge stated.

He further stated that he is very happy that he was considered for the opportunity and considers it as an honour.

INDIA Bloc Announces Veep Candidate

Even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged the Opposition to support NDA’s Vice-Presidential candidate CP Radhakrishnan, the INDIA bloc on Tuesday fielded its own nominee — former Supreme Court judge Sudershan Reddy.

The former Supreme Court judge has also served as Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court and as a Judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court. Reddy retired as a Supreme Court judge in 2011.

Announcing the INDIA bloc’s candidate, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge said, “This vice-presidential contest is an ideological battle, and all the opposition parties agreed on this, and this is the reason we have nominated B Sudershan Reddy as the joint candidate.”

Kharge noted that Reddy is one of India’s most distinguished and progressive jurists, adding that he has had a long and eminent legal career.
