The special, crafted around a grand lunch prepared by actor-turned-chef Armaan Jain, pays tribute to the 100th birth anniversary of Bollywood icon Raj Kapoor. But the presence of Amitabh Bachchan’s grandchildren, Navya Naveli Nanda and Agastya Nanda, had left many viewers puzzled. The special, which dropped yesterday, finally put those questions to rest as Ranbir Kapoor and Navya decoded their relationship on camera.

Navya on belonging to the Kapoor clan

In the documentary, Raj Kapoor’s great-granddaughter Navya Naveli Nanda, daughter of Shweta Bachchan Nanda, opened up about the family’s enduring legacy.“I don’t think it’s common to see five generations in a room together. And I’m really glad that we got that opportunity from so many of the elders in this family for as long as we did,” she shared. As the family gathered for lunch, Ranbir Kapoor pointed toward Navya and playfully declared, “She’s my cousin. Don’t say it.”His sister Riddhima Kapoor Sahni quickly corrected him, “She’s our niece, stupid.”Still unconvinced, Ranbir doubled down, pointing at Navya again and saying, “She is my cousin. Cousin hai tu meri.” The moment left everyone laughing.Navya later clarified the dynamics for the audience.“We’ve grown up with Armaan, Aadar and Ranbir from this family tree. But I have Zahan, I have… I forget. There’s so many of us that it’s really hard to keep track. But there are lots of chachas in the family. But we’re all so close in age that I call them my cousins.”

Ranbir reveals the story behind his name

In another candid moment, Ranbir Kapoor shared how he inherited his name from his legendary grandfather.“My name is actually my grandfather’s name. His real name was Ranbir Raj Kapoor. That’s how he used to sign his checks. And when I was born… I think they were running out of names from ‘R’. So my granduncle, Mr Shammi Kapoor, told Raj Kapoor, ‘Since you’ve not used this name, let’s give it to him.’ So I got the name Ranbir from him,” he revealed.Dining With The Kapoors is created by Armaan Jain and directed by Smriti Mundhra of Indian Matchmaking fame. The show brings together members of the iconic Kapoor family, Randhir Kapoor, Rima Jain, Neetu Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Karisma Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor, as they bonded over food, memories, and nostalgia.
