Throwback: When Meera Vasudevan called herself a ‘Chameleon’

When Meera Vasudevan called herself a ‘Chameleon’ in cinema; actress opened up on becoming any woman on screen

Actress Meera Vasudevan has recently made headlines with the announcement of her third divorce, prompting her to reflect on a past interview from 2019 where she highlighted her unique ability to portray a spectrum of women.

As actress Meera Vasudevan makes headlines today as she confirmed the end of her marriage to cinematographer Vipin Puthiyankam, let’s take a throwback look at one of her most candid interviews from 2019—when she declared, “I feel I can be a chameleon when it comes to women characters.”Speaking to TOI City about her performance in ‘Silencer’, directed by national award-winner Priyanandanan, Meera recalled playing Tresamma, a dominant 50-year-old woman from Thrissur. She explained how the character evolves: women who begin life quietly, only to transform into a “storm” when success and wealth alter their circumstances. The role demanded not only emotional depth but also a physical transformation—something Meera has openly discussed.

Weight gain, health issues, and reinvention

Meera revealed in the interview that her body went through significant changes after motherhood. Coming from Bollywood’s appearance-driven culture, she admitted it was a struggle. With hypothyroidism, vertigo, low BP, and injuries, her weight once touched 97 kilos during pregnancy. “In my body frame, it looked really bad,” she said. She waited until her son grew older before focusing on fitness again. She also starred in Kuttimama, playing actor Irshad’s mother and Lal’s wife—an emotional drama exploring how wealth changes people and their relationships. The actress described the film as a sarcastic commentary on communication between individuals in today’s world.Life changed further when she moved from Mumbai to Kochi in 2017. She spoke openly about the cultural shift, the freedom in Mumbai versus early curfews, social judgment, and even stalking incidents in Kerala. But with time, she adapted, embraced the warmth of the people, and eventually found a comforting rhythm with her parents and young son by her side.

Present day: Meera confirms she is single again

Recently Meera Vasudevan announced the end of her third marriage. Taking to Instagram, she posted a glowing selfie in a maroon saree and wrote, “I officially declare that I am now single since Aug 2025… I am at a most wonderful and peaceful phase of my life.” Go to Source
