Karisma’s kids say US fees unpaid; Priya Kapur denies claims

Karisma Kapoor’s children tell Delhi HC their US university fees haven’t been paid for two months while contesting Sunjay Kapur's will; Priya Kapur denies allegations

Bollywood actor Karisma Kapoor’s children on Friday informed the Delhi High Court that the university fees of one of them, currently studying in the United States, have remained unpaid for the past two months. The submission was made before Justice Jyoti Singh, who urged both sides to refrain from turning the legal battle “melodramatic” and to resolve such issues privately rather than bringing them before the court repeatedly.

Children challenge late father Sunjay Kapur’s will

The hearing was part of an ongoing dispute in which Samaira Kapur and her brother are contesting the validity of their late father Sunjay Kapur’s purported will, which reportedly involves assets worth nearly Rs 30,000 crore.Senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, representing the children, argued that under a matrimonial decree, Sunjay Kapur was obligated to bear all expenses related to the children’s upbringing and education. He claimed that since the estate is currently controlled by Sunjay’s widow, Priya Kapur, the university fees for Samaira have not been cleared for two months.

Priya Kapur denies allegations, calls them ‘fabricated’

Senior advocate Rajiv Nayar, appearing for Priya Kapur, dismissed the allegations as “baseless” and “fabricated.” He maintained that Priya has consistently taken care of the children and insisted that all dues, including university fees, have already been settled.Nayar also suggested that the fee-related accusation was raised merely to draw media attention. The proceedings also included submissions on an interim injunction sought by the Kapoor siblings, requesting the court to restrain Priya Kapur from disposing of any assets belonging to their late father. The bench has listed further arguments for next week.

‘Cinderella stepmother’ remark resurfaces in court

The children have earlier questioned the authenticity of Sunjay Kapur’s will and even referred to Priya Kapur in court as a “Cinderella stepmother,” alleging she places her own interests ahead of theirs.Priya, in response, told the court that the children have already received Rs 1,900 crore from the family trust. An earlier order also directed her to submit a comprehensive list of Sunjay Kapur’s assets.
