After a strong theatrical run, ‘Bad Girl’, the much-discussed Tamil coming-of-age film, is now streaming on digital platforms. Directed by debutant Varsha Bharath, the film has been winning hearts across the internet. Among its admirers is actress Sobhita Dhulipala, who took to social media to share her heartfelt praise for the film.
Sobhita’s emotional note for ‘Bad Girl’
Sobhita Dhulipala, known for her nuanced performances in ‘Made in Heaven’ and ‘The Night Manager’, shared her reaction to the film through her now-expired Instagram Stories. Posting the film’s poster, she wrote:“Bad Girl had me smirking AND tearing up. I feel seen. Beheld. A film that ripens by the minute. Heavily recommend to everyone, especially the girls. This one’s for us, y’all. Shout out to @varsha.bharath3 and @anjalisivaraman — you guys are simply beyond . Watch it on JioHotstar.”Bad Girl is a coming-of-age drama that follows the journey of a rebellious young woman who defies societal expectations. Alongside Anjali Sivaraman as Ramya, the film also stars Shanthipriya as Sundari and Hridhu Haroon as Nalan.
The controversy
Before its release, ‘Bad Girl’ sparked controversy online after its trailer dropped. Some viewers accused the film of negatively portraying a particular religion. Director G. Mohan took to X (formerly Twitter) to allege that the filmmakers, Vetrimaaran and Anurag Kashyap, were “targeting Brahmin girls.” He wrote, “Portraying a Brahmin girl’s personal life is always a bold and refreshing film for this clan. What more can be expected from Vetrimaran, Anurag Kasyap & Co… Bashing Brahmin father and mother is old and not trendy.”
On the work front
Sobhita recently made her Hollywood debut alongside Dev Patel in ‘Monkey Man’ and was also seen in ‘Love, Sitara’. She will next be seen in the new season of ‘Made in Heaven’.
