In a moment of horror for the tourists, a group of visitors at Rajasthan’s Ranthambore National Park was allegedly left stranded for over an hour in the forest area harbouring tigers after their safari guide fled following a breakdown of their canter, according to a report on Sunday.

The incident took place at around 6 pm when the canter carrying women, children, among other tourists broke down in the middle of the jungle, leaving them horrified and fearful for their lives.

The tourists claimed that the guide left the vehicle, saying that he would get another canter; however, after his misbehaviour, he did not return, NDTV reported.

Videos taken by tourists showed children sitting in the dark, using mobile lights and crying in fear in the middle of the forest, which is said to have more than 60 tigers. The national park is also home to many leopards, sloth bears, and marsh crocodiles.

The tourists were stranded in the forest between 6 pm and 7.30 pm before being rescued, according to the officials, the report said.

Ranthambore Tiger Reserve’s Field Director and Chief Conservator of Forests, Anoop KR, said that keeping tourists safe in the park is the top priority. He also warned that strict action will be taken against any guide or driver who breaks the rules and that such carelessness will not be allowed.
