Railways employee throws garbage on train track

NEW DELHI: A Railways employee was filmed throwing garbage from a moving train, prompting his immediate removal the same day. The incident sparked widespread criticism and reignited concerns over cleanliness and poor waste disposal practices within Indian Railways. Social media users condemned the act, calling it a reflection of a broader problem.A video shared on Instagram, by a man who said that he was traveling from Kanpur to Jaipur on Sdah Aii Sf Exp (12987) on November 4, when he saw the railway collect the garbage bag from the bin on-board and threw it on the tracks from the moving train. The passenger further explained in video’s caption that he had tried telling the employee that he shouldn’t have done it and explain the problem but was met with retort that, “So what, should I have taken it home then?”. The passengers stated that his efforts went futile as the man did it again after sometime. As the video gained attention, Railways responded that the employee has been removed. “Dear Passenger, Your complaint regarding throwing of garbage on track in train no 12987 from running train has been viewed seriously and Contractual staff Sh Sanjay Singh has been removed with immediate effect,” said the North Western Railway. It also revealed imposition of penalty and counselling saying, “Strict penalty has been imposed on the contractual firm. Also, counselling drive has been started with immediate effect to educate OBHS staff to dispose garbage at nominated stations only to prevent recurrence of such cases. Inconvenience caused is deeply regretted, continuous efforts shall be made to improve passenger services.”Public also reacted to the video, criticising the employee and the lack of civic responsibilities. One replied with sarcasm saying, “Hum bahar feke to gandgi, ye feke to safai (We throw outside- it’s garbage, they do it so it’s cleanliness?” “Action should be taken against them,” said another.
