Thrashed by teacher, boy has to undergo surgery at AIIMS

AIIMS

ROORKEE: A case has been registered against a teacher of a junior high school near Roorkee for allegedly thrashing a Class 7 student so severely that the boy’s eye and ear were grievously injured, requiring him to undergo critical surgery at AIIMS Delhi. The 13-year-old suffered “loss of vision in the left eye due to damaged retina, along with ruptured eardrum”, his father said Wednesday. The teacher, however, dismissed the father’s claims. In his complaint, Ram Kumar said: “On Sept 9, my son had a quarrel with another boy at school. Teacher Satish Prajapati then repeatedly slapped him, resulting in injuries to his left eye. His ear was also bleeding.” The 13-year-old was admitted in AIIMS-Delhi on Oct 11 and the ear surgery took place on Oct 21. His eye operation is yet to happen. “Even if it succeeds, our child may remain partly blind,” said Kumar. The teacher who runs KSS Children’s Academy said the charges against him were “completely false”.
