Over the past few months, bomb threats have been made against political leaders, film celebrities, schools, planes, and airports across the country. Such threats, spread through social media and email, have become a major challenge for the police.
Email alert targets Rajinikanth and Dhanush’s homes
Similarly, an email was received at the Chennai DGP office this morning, as per Maalai Malar. It was mentioned that bombs had been planted at the homes of actor Rajinikanth and actor Dhanush in Poes Garden, Chennai, and at the home of Tamil Nadu Congress leader Selvaperunthakai in Kilpakkam. Following the threat, the police took immediate action. A detailed search was conducted at the relevant locations with the help of bomb experts and sniffer dogs. Tight security arrangements were made around Rajinikanth and Dhanush’s houses in Poes Garden. Similarly, intelligence officials also raided Selvapperundhagai’s house in Kilpakkam.
Bomb threat turns out to be a hoax
Officials said that no bomb was found during the lengthy search, confirming that the bomb threat was a hoax. However, the police are taking this very seriously and have launched an investigation into the source of the threatening email. Cybercrime officers are conducting online surveillance to identify the person who sent the email.
Rise in false threats alarms police and public alike
It is worrying that there has been a recent increase in bomb threats targeting the homes of political leaders and film celebrities in Tamil Nadu. Vijay, Trisha, Nayanthara, and several other cinema stars’ houses earlier faced a bomb threat. Even though these are proven to be hoaxes on each inspection, the police handle each threat carefully. Officials have warned that strict action will be taken against those who spread such false information and cause fear.
