NEW DELHI: Hours after 20 people died in a bus fire in Andhra Pradesh’s Kurnool following a collision with a bike, CCTV footage circulating on social media allegedly shows the biker, suspected of causing the accident, was drunk. The Bengaluru-bound private bus caught fire in the early hours of Friday after hitting a two-wheeler. The blaze started after the motorcycle, with its fuel cap open, was dragged under the bus, killing 20 people. The footage, recorded at a petrol pump around 2.23 am on October 24, allegedly shows the biker parking near a fuel dispenser. The pillion rider dismounts as both men look around, apparently calling for the pump staff. A few seconds later, the biker returns, turns the bike using its tail, and rides away unsteadily. The biker was allegedly under the influence of alcohol. The biker can be seen struggling to balance the vehicle and swerving as he left the petrol pump.Meanwhile, the bus driver, who survived by jumping out through the passenger door, “failed to gauge the situation,” a police official said on Saturday. There were 44 passengers on the bus, and several managed to escape the fire.
