'Dies Irae' release trailer out: Pranav Mohanlal’s film to hit the big screens on October; THIS brilliant J-cut steals the show

Step into the shadows with Pranav Mohanlal’s ‘Dies Irae’, an eerie psychological horror directed by Rahul Sadasivan. The gripping trailer has been unveiled, heralding its global premiere on Halloween, October 31, 2025. Based on chilling true events, ‘Dies Irae’ captivates with its haunting visuals and remarkable audio craftsmanship, setting the stage for a night of sheer terror.

The wait is finally over! Pranav Mohanlal’s much-awaited psychological horror ‘Dies Irae’, directed by ‘Bramayugam’ fame Rahul Sadasivan, has unveiled its spine-chilling release trailer. The makers have officially announced that the film will hit cinemas worldwide on October 31, 2025, coinciding perfectly with Halloween.

Unmissable ‘J cut’ in the first sequence

Film students assemble! Rahul Sadasivan has used a brilliant J cut in the first few seconds of the trailer. The trailer begins with an eerie visual of an empty room captured in a pull-back shot that transitions through a masterfully executed match cut.

As the lights flicker off and on which is mixed perfectly with a ticking sound in the backdrop, the sequence reveals Pranav Mohanlal in a haunting new avatar.The sound design stands out with its innovative J-cut. The perfect cut connects visuals to a cracking sound of wood that turns out to be Pranav breaking an object with his bare hands. One can only wonder how brilliantly Rahul Sadasivan has mixed sound and edits in just a few seconds into the trailer.

Based on a true event – Got chills?

As the screen fades to darkness, Pranav’s intense gaze sets the tone before the words appear: “Based on true events.” What follows is a barrage of haunting imagery of eerie corridors, distorted reflections. A voice-over can be heard narrating verses from the Book of Revelation, speaking of the end times: “The trumpets will sound, and the earth and sky shall be destroyed.”

A powerful creative reunion with the ‘Bramayugam’ team

Rahul Sadasivan, who has both written and directed ‘Dies Irae’, has assembled his Bramayugam collaborators for this ambitious project. The film features Jibin Gopinath and Manohari Joy in pivotal roles. The cinematography is by Shehnad Jalal and the music composer is Christo Xavier. Production designer is Jothish Shankar, and editor is the talented Shafique Mohamed Ali.Overall, ‘Dies Irae’ will surely be worth watching on the big screens and the release trailer proves it.
