Ayushmann Khurrana’s ‘Thamma’ has achieved a career-best opening of Rs 24 crore, proving audiences crave compelling content beyond sequels and star vehicles during Diwali. The actor expressed immense joy, calling it a dream come true to have his film resonate with families during the festive season, challenging the notion that only big-budget films succeed.

Ayushmann Khurrana’s latest release, ‘Thamma’, is receiving a positive response at the box office. The film earned Rs 24 crore on its opening day. Recently, the actor expressed that such a massive opening proves audiences don’t just flock to sequels or superstar-led films during festivals like Diwali.

Talking about his career-best opening with ‘Thamma’, Ayushmann told The Hindustan Times, “I’m an entertainer, so it brings me so much joy to see people loving and enjoying ‘Thamma’ and my performance during these big Diwali holidays.”He added that he was thrilled when producer Dinesh Vijan informed him about the film’s Diwali release. “It was something that I always wished to happen in my career,” he said.On the positive reviews from both audiences and critics, Ayushmann said, “The first-day love that I have got, that the film has got, busts a lot of myths that people only want to see sequels and remakes and big superstar movies on Diwali.”He emphasized that the box office numbers have shown that people want to watch great content.

Experiencing a Diwali release

Ayushmann further shared that every actor dreams of seeing their film watched by entire families in theaters during festivals like Diwali. “I’m happy I’m living this feeling with ‘Thamma’,” he said.He noted that over the years, superstar-led tentpole films have dominated Diwali releases. Calling ‘Thamma’ his own “tentpole” movie, Ayushmann said he feels fortunate to release it this festive season. “Every year, I used to go to theaters with my family to watch a superstar’s film release. Today, I have gone to theaters to watch my film with my family. It feels incredible,” he added.
