Hyundai Motor India names Tarun Garg as new MD & CEO, effective January 2026

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has announced Tarun Garg as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective January 1, 2026. He will replace Unsoo Kim, who is returning to Hyundai Motor on December 31. This strategic move was announced in the company’s regulatory filings.

Garg, who currently serves as Whole-time Director at HMIL, is expected to lead the company’s growth strategy amid changing market conditions in India. This announcement coincides with South Korean automakers’ first investors’ meet today post IPO, where the industry can expect a few big announcements from the player.

A veteran of the auto industry, Garg started his career at Maruti Suzuki as a Management Trainee, gaining experience in logistics and sales planning before moving through various leadership roles.

At Hyundai India, Garg has charted company’s innovative initiatives including the introduction of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) in nine models, while also working on improving sales quality, reducing incentives, and increasing profit margins.

He holds a Mechanical Engineering degree from Delhi Technological University and an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow. Over his career, he has handled diverse roles covering regional sales, commercial operations, national sales and network management, marketing, logistics, and parts and accessories.
