Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other BJP leaders  on Tuesday hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi on completing 24 years as head of a government.

Calling Modi ‘Karma Yogi’, Shah said he took oath as Gujarat chief minister on this day 24 years ago and, during his long public service, has proved that when the vision is ‘Nation First’ and the mission is ‘Developed India’, leadership can transform lives.

“Twenty-four years dedicated to the nation and public service! This day is very significant for the entire country, when a ‘karma yogi’ devoted to public service with selfless spirit took the constitutional oath, considered people’s problems as his own, and began resolving them, and these problems kept turning into history,” Shah wrote on X in Hindi (translated by Grok).

Shah said in these 24 years, Modi had transformed farmers, women, industry and education in Gujarat, as well as ensured the nation’s security, welfare of the poor, and the upliftment of all sections, including the backward, Dalit and tribal communities, as the PM.

His fellow BJP leader, JP Nadda said Modi was “dedicated to the service of Mother India” while Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis called him a “real hero”, who has “walked the talk” when it comes to public service.

Nadda said Modi 24-year journey – from an ordinary worker of the BJP to the role of the nation’s “chief servant” – is an exemplary model of “service, dedication, public welfare, and national resurgence”.

“Today, 24 years have been completed in the esteemed Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji’s public life dedicated to serving Mother India,” Nadda wrote in Hindi (translated by Grok) on X. “From an ordinary worker of the Bharatiya Janata Party to the role of the nation’s chief servant, Modi ji’s 24-year journey serves as an exemplary model of “service, dedication, public welfare, and national resurgence.”

He added: “Prime Minister Modi ji has, through the fulfillment of the resolve of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, and Sabka Prayas,” uplifted crores of deprived people and, along with strengthening the country’s strategic security, given India a new identity on the global stage. On the completion of 100 years of India’s independence, Modi ji’s vision of building a “Developed India” by the year 2047 inspires millions of workers to remain dedicated to their continuous duty. It is our collective fortune that under your leadership, we have received the excellent opportunity to serve the nation…”

The BJP national president congratulated Modi on behalf of BJP workers and said his journey of national service was inspiring.

In conversation with actor Akshay Kumar, at ‘FICCI Frames 2025’, Fadnavis said: “In the entire political history of India, I see PM Narendra Modi as a real hero. He has walked the talk.”

Fadnavis highlighted Modi’s achievements from poverty alleviation to India becoming the fifth largest economy. “…Be it technology or defence manufacturing, in every sector, India is competing with the world. So, I feel that we always heard stories of how great we were. But nobody ever told us when we would become great. Now we know that we are on the path, we have the image of 2047 Viksit Bharat and PM Modi has brought that image before us,” he said.

After spearheading the BJP to victory in three consecutive assembly elections in Gujarat as the chief minister, Modi has led the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) as the prime minister since 2014, winning three successive Lok Sabha polls.

As an incumbent, Modi has never faced an electoral defeat and holds the record as the longest head of a government among all prime ministers, including as chief minister for more than 12-and-a-half years.

On the occasion, the Prime Minister, who entered his 25th year in governance, said improving the lives of people and contributing to the progress of this great nation have been his constant endeavours.

In a series of posts on X, he noted that he had taken oath on this day in 2001 as Gujarat’s chief minister for the first time.

“Thanks to the continuous blessings of my fellow Indians, I am entering my 25th year of serving as the head of a Government. My gratitude to the people of India,” Modi said on social media. “Through all these years, it has been my constant endeavour to improve the lives of our people and contribute to the progress of this great nation that has nurtured us all.”
