A day after the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) announced a revision in city bus fares, commuters across Hyderabad expressed anger and disappointment over the sudden hike, calling it an additional burden on the common man.

The new fares, effective from October 6, saw ticket prices go up by Rs 5-Rs 10 across various categories, including City Ordinary, Metro Express, E-Ordinary, E-Express, Metro Deluxe and E-Metro AC services.

The fare revision has triggered sharp criticism from passengers and opposition parties alike, who accused the Congress government of failing to manage finances.

Speaking to CNN-News18, a passenger traveling on an RTC bus said the hike would affect them financially. “On one hand, they are giving free bus rides to women and on the other, they have increased ticket prices, which is not correct. If they want to give free bus service, why not give it to students in schools and colleges? In all these years, we didn’t see such hike but in the last two years, the Congress government has increased the price 3-4 times.”

BRS spokesperson Krishank Manne hit out at the Congress government, saying it does not have money to fulfil its promises and is hence burdening the people of Telangana. “There is no free bus scheme, people from the same family are paying double as the Congress government is looting them by increasing fares.”

BJP state president Ramchander Rao called the fare hike a burden on the common man and said the government must immediately roll it back.
