A total of 20 cases have been filed against celebrity hairstylist Jawed Habib and his family for allegedly duping over 100 people of crores of rupees. Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal Police have also booked Habib’s wife, who is the alleged founder of the company and son, Anas, India Today reported. Habib and his family are yet to issue a statement.

Around 150 participants were promised returns of 50-75% on investments in Bitcoin and Binance coins, with each reportedly investing Rs 5-7 lakh. As no returns were paid within a year, investors approached police. The Habibs then shut down the company and absconded.

India Today quoted Superintendent of Police KK Bishnoi as saying the estimated financial fraud amounts to Rs 5-7 crore.

Bishnoi was quoted in the report as saying: “A group of people approached the police stating that they were defrauded of lakhs of rupees by Javed Habib, his son Anas Habib, and others under the name of Follicile Global Company. They had organized a meeting at Royal Palace Banquet Hall in Sambhal, promising 50-75% returns within a year. Investments were made in Binance Coins and Bitcoins. When investors demanded their money back, the accused closed the company and absconded. Following the complaints, a case has been registered against Jawed Habib, his son Anas Habib, Saiful, and others.”

Complaints filed

The first complaint was registered at Raysatti police station.

Subsequently, 19 more cases were filed.

Cases have been filed under Sections 420 and 506 of the IPC

Action taken

Lookout notices have been issued against all members of Habib’s family to prevent them from leaving the country.

Habib has been summoned to Sambhal for questioning.

Police teams are currently collecting details of the family’s assets and will soon visit their properties in Delhi and Mumbai under Section 107 of the CrPC.

If charge sheets are filed, action under the Gangster Act, including property seizure, will follow.
