A 40-year-old man was shot dead while he was working out at a gymnasium in Rajasthan’s Kuchaman. The incident happened on Tuesday morning when an unidentified man entered the gym and opened fire.

The deceased was identified as Ramesh Rulania, who owned a two-wheeler showroom and a hotel in the city.

Commenting on the incident, Assistant Superintendent of Police Nemi Chand Kharia told reporters that the attacker had entered the gym at nearly 5.20 am and fired at Rulania from close range.

He fled the spot soon after.

A CCTV video of the incident showed the suspect entering the premises before he committed the crime.

Rulania, who was rushed to a nearby hospital by the other members of the gym, was declared dead.

Meanwhile, the police were scanning CCTV camera footage from the nearby areas to identify the killer.

According to news agency PTI, the police suspect the murder may be linked to an extortion threat Rulania reportedly received a few days ago from the Rohit Godara gang.

The gang is active across western Rajasthan, including the Didwana-Kuchaman district.

Several other businessmen in the region reportedly received similar threats recently.

Rawatram Swami alias Rohit Godara, a notorious gangster from Lunkaransar in Bikaner district, is believed to be the mastermind behind the killing of gangster Raju Thehat, who was gunned down by four assailants in Sikar in December 2022.

Godara’s name also surfaced in the May 2022 killing of popular Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala and the murder of Karni Sena chief Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi in December 2023.

In a separate incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur on October 5, a 45-year-old man was allegedly shot dead by his cousin brother following a dispute over removing a dog’s carcass.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Rajesh Dwivedi said the family members told police that one Vivek Saxena had run over a stray dog with his car three days ago. When his cousin, Pramod Saxena, 45, asked him to get the carcass removed, an argument broke out between them.

Vivek, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, arrived at Pramod’s house and shot him dead with a country-made pistol.
