A major discovery in Bijawar, Chhatarpur district, Madhya Pradesh, saw hundreds of genuine voter ID cards recovered from a local pond called Raja Talab. The incident, which involves voter IDs from Ward No. 15, came to light during a cleanliness drive on Saturday morning, leading the administration to initiate an immediate investigation.

According to local media reports, municipal sanitation workers spotted a plastic bag floating in the pond. Upon retrieval, they found it contained around 400 to 500 genuine voter ID cards. Officials have confirmed the authenticity of these cards.

Villagers believe these cards may have disappeared before they could be distributed to the voters. All recovered cards are now in the custody of the administration, and an investigation team has been formed.

The Chhatarpur district administration has already launched a preliminary inquiry to uncover how such a large number of voter cards ended up in the pond.

The incident has sparked a political uproar, with photos and videos of the bags containing the voter ID cards going viral on social media. State Congress leader Deepti Pandey stated that the incident supports Rahul Gandhi’s “Vote Chor Gaddi Chhod” campaign, calling for an impartial investigation.

Congress District President Gagan Yadav demanded clarification from the Election Commission on how hundreds of voter cards ended up in the pond, threatening street protests if answers are not provided.

The administration has confirmed the formation of a full investigation team and the preservation of the cards. Local police are also probing whether this was an act of negligence or a deliberate act.
