Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday took to X to mark 25 years since his oath as Gujarat’s Chief Minister, and of his service as the head of the government.

Sharing a picture from October 7, 2001, the day he took the office as Gujarat’s Chief Minister, the Prime Minister reflected on his journey in public service and expressed gratitude to the people of India.

“On this day in 2001, I took oath as Gujarat’s Chief Minister for the first time,” PM Modi wrote.

“Thanks to the continuous blessings of my fellow Indians, I am entering my 25th year of serving as the head of a Government,” he mentioned.

“Through all these years, it has been my constant endeavour to improve the lives of our people and contribute to the progress of this great nation that has nurtured us all,” PM Modi added.

Alongside the throwback image of him taking the oath as the Chief Minister of Gujarat, PM Modi also shared a photograph of himself taking the oath as Prime Minister at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Before being elected as the Prime Minister of India, Modi served as the Chief Minister of Gujarat from October 2001 to May 2014.

During his tenure as the Chief Minister, he created a separate Climate Change Department to create innovative solutions to climate change, which was taken forward in the 2015 COP21 Summit in Paris, where PM Modi played a key role in the high-level deliberations.

As Gujarat’s Chief Minister, Modi also transformed the state that had just been ravaged by a devastating earthquake on January 26, 2001. Subsequently, he introduced new systems to combat floods and droughts in Gujarat, an initiative that was internationally lauded.

He also spearheaded the start of evening courts to ensure people’s issues are resolved.

GUJARAT – PM MODI’s HOME STATE

PM Modi was born in a small town in Gujarat and completed his MA in political science from Gujarat University.

His family belonged to the ‘other backward class’, which is among the marginalised sections of society. He grew up in a poor but loving family. The initial hardships of life not only taught him the value of hard work but also exposed him to the avoidable sufferings of the common people.

This inspired him from a very young age to immerse himself in the service of people and the nation.

In his initial years, he worked with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a nationalist organisation devoted to nation-building.

He later devoted himself to politics, working with the Bharatiya Janata Party at the National and State levels.
