BJP Claims Khagen Suffered Fracture Below Eye In Stone-Pelting Attack

BJP MP Khagen Murmu from North Malda, who was attacked while distributing relief materials to flood-affected residents in Jalpaiguri’s Nagrakata area on Monday, has suffered a fracture below his eye.

Stones were hurled at his convoy as he and BJP MLA Dr Shankar Ghosh oversaw relief efforts following devastating floods and landslides in the region.

“Grievous injury , a fracture of the left maxilla forming the floor of the left eye. He could have lost vision in that eye,” said the BJP.

The BJP MP from North Malda received initial treatment at a local hospital before being shifted to Siliguri for advanced care. Visuals from the scene showed Murmu bleeding profusely as party workers rushed him to safety. MLA Shankar Ghosh, who was accompanying him, also sustained minor injuries.

BJP alleges TMC orchestrated attack

The BJP has accused the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) of orchestrating the attack, calling it an attempt to obstruct relief work and intimidate opposition leaders. “This is TMC’s jungle raj in Bengal,” senior party leaders alleged, demanding a high-level investigation into the incident.

The attack occurred amid widespread devastation caused by incessant rains, floods, and landslides across North Bengal. Several districts, including Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, and Alipurduar, remain severely affected, with dozens reported dead and thousands displaced. Relief and rehabilitation operations continue under challenging conditions.

As per the latest updates, Murmu remains under medical supervision in Siliguri but is reported to be out of danger. The incident has further escalated political tensions, with the BJP demanding accountability and stronger measures to ensure the safety of its elected representatives.
