An inquiry was launched after widely shared videos on social media showed an undertrial prisoner at Bengaluru’s Central Prison celebrating his birthday on the jail premises along with other inmates, The Times Of India reported.
The incident was reported to be nearly five months old, and the prisoner celebrating his birthday was identified as Gubbachhi Seena, accused of killing his rival in January this year.

According to the report, Seena was arrested in February after being shot in the leg by Sarjapura police, when he allegedly attacked a constable during the operation.
Other inmates seen in the video were identified as Anand, Arun, Praveen, Surya, Mithun, Preeksith, Prajval, Chetan, Aravind, and Karthik, per the report.
The video, shared by some media houses, shows Seena surrounded by other inmates, cutting his birthday cake with a large knife. The celebration was being filmed by his fellow inmates.
An alarm was raised after the wife of Seena’s murder rival saw the video on social media and informed the jail authorities about the same, demanding action.
Subsequently, a case was registered, and a probe was initiated into how mobile phones were being used inside the prison and who facilitated the celebration.
In a separate incident on Saturday, members of a gang who posted videos on social media to celebrate the release of their kingpin in Maharashtra’s Nashik city were paraded in public with their hands tied, to ensure “they learn a lesson the hard way”.
The reels and posts made by the gang members had gone viral on social media.
A video of the “victory parade” comprising several vehicles had a voice-over, saying, ‘Raja ke aagman mein unki praja ka intazar’ (locals waiting for the arrival of their king), amid loud background music.
The video showed a couple of members of the local gang welcoming the history-sheeter as he walked out of Nashik Road Central Jail before being joined by a convoy of vehicles with cheering associates resorting to hooliganism.
