Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday said that the viscera examination report of late singer Zubeen Garg will be submitted to the government by October 10. He also informed that the police are carefully recording every witness statement in the case diary. He clarified that the recent discussions in the media about “poisoning” were based on an accused person’s claim, not an official finding by the police.
“The police’s duty is to record everything in the case diary as stated by witnesses. Some will say positive things, and others will say negative things, and the police will continue to document it all. However, these are not police statements; they are only witness statements,” said the Assam CM in an official statement.

He further explained that the poisoning claim was part of a witness statement and not a police conclusion. “Whether he gave this statement to protect himself or to blame someone else will be revealed during the investigation,” he added.
The Chief Minister also appealed to the Assamese community to help ensure the early return of key suspects currently in Singapore. He said their presence was essential for completing the investigation. “Today, we are more concerned about whether the Assamese people currently in Singapore will return to cooperate with the investigation,” Sarma said, referring to those who travelled with Zubeen Garg on the yacht trip before his death.
Sarma named several people who are already in custody, including Shyamkanu Mahanta, Siddharth Sharma, Shekhar, and Amritprava, expressing confidence that their statements would help uncover the truth. “If they do not, we will face another cycle of complications,” he added.
According to official documents, Zubeen Garg’s bandmate, Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, claimed that the singer was “poisoned” in Singapore. He alleged that Zubeen’s manager Siddharth Sharma and event organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta had “deliberately chosen a foreign venue to conceal their conspiracy.”
Both Sharma and Mahanta have been arrested as part of the ongoing investigation. Co-singer Amritprava Mahanta and bandmate Shekhar Jyoti Goswami have also been taken into custody.
