A 45-year-old ice cream vendor was arrested in the Jhakri area of Shimla district on Saturday for the alleged attempted rape of a six-year-old girl, police said. The arrest follows a complaint filed by the girl’s mother, who alleged that the man, a native of Rajasthan, lured her daughter away from her shop on the pretext of giving her ice cream.

According to the mother’s account to the police, she initially did not notice her daughter’s absence as she was attending to customers. Upon realizing the girl was missing, she began to search for her. When she went to the ice cream cart, she allegedly witnessed the vendor attempting to rape her daughter. Upon seeing the mother, the man reportedly fled the scene.

Police said that further investigation into the matter is underway.
