Elnaz Hajtamiri abduction case: Indian-origin Sukhpreet Singh arrested in Texas extradited to Canada

Elnaz Hajtamiri abduction case: Indian-origin Sukhpreet Singh arrested in Texas extradited to Canada

Indian-origin man Sukhpreet Singh extradited to Canada from Texas in connection with high-profile Elnaz Hajtamiri disappearance case.

25-year-old Sukhpreet Singh, an Indian-origin man wanted in Canada in connection with the high-profile case of Elnaz Hajtamiri’s disappearance, was arrested in Texas and was extradited to Ontario. The case dates back to 2021 and Sukhpreet Singh, who used to stay in Mississauga, was the eighth suspect in the case. York Police charged Singh with aggravated assault and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence. Singh apparently attacked Hajtamiri weeks before her abduction.

Who is Elnaz Hajtamiri? Where is she?

An Iranian woman, Hajtamiri, 37, came to Canada in 2018 and started working in the import-export shipping industry. Hajtamiri was allegedly hit with a frying pan in December 2021 which required 40 stitches. In January 2022, three men dressed in fake police uniforms allegedly kidnapped her from a relative’s home in Wasaga Beach. She has not been seen since and is presumed dead.Hajtamiri’s ex-boyfriend Mohamad Lilo is among the eight people charged in the case, apart from Sukhpreet Singh, Jaspreet Singh, Harshdeep Binner, Riyasat Singh, Deshawn Davis. York Police said they identified Singh as a suspect connected to the garage attack and issued a Canada-wide warrant for his arrest. He fled Canada and was found in Texas with the help of the United States Marshals Service, Homeland Security, the Austin Police Department and immigration enforcement. “Criminal aliens will find no refuge in the US. We will find you, arrest you and remove you,” San Antonio ICE posted when they arrested Singh. There is a $100,000 reward for information leading to Hajtamiri’s whereabouts. There are various theories that her ex-boyfriend hired Singh to attack her after Hajtamiri allegedly went to the police to complain about Mohamad Lilo’s abuse. Lilo was charged with first-degree murder over Hajtamiri’s disappearance. Hajtamiri had broken up with Lilo in October 2021. In November, she reported she was being harassed by him. In December, she was attacked and then she moved from Richmond Hill to Wasaga Beach. In January, she disappeared.
