Assam Police have arrested two more people in connection with the death of popular singer Zubeen Garg, bringing the total number of arrests in the case to four.

Musician Shekharjyoti Goswami and singer Amritprabha Mahanta, both members of Zubeen Garg’s music team, were taken into custody on Wednesday.

According to the police on Thursday, they have been charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder, criminal conspiracy, and causing death by negligence under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Police say both were present at the yacht party in Singapore on September 19 during the North East India Festival. Zubeen, 52, was last seen going for a swim. He was later found floating face down in the water under suspicious circumstances.

Earlier today, the police had arrested Garg’s manager Siddharth Sharma and festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta. They were taken into custody in Delhi and brought to Guwahati on Wednesday. Police have now added Section 103 of the BNS to the case, which deals with murder and carries the punishment of death or life imprisonment.

Munna Prasad Gupta, Special DGP of the Assam CID, confirmed that both Sharma and Mahanta are in 14-day police custody. “The investigation is going on, and I cannot share much detail. We have added Section 103 of the BNS in the FIR now,” Gupta said.

Over 60 FIRs have been filed across Assam in connection with the case. Mahanta was the chief organiser of the Northeast India Festival in Singapore, where the singer had gone to perform.

The CID is awaiting the viscera report from the Central Forensic Laboratory in Delhi, which will support the findings of the second post-mortem conducted in Guwahati. The first autopsy was done in Singapore.

Zubeen Garg was in Singapore to perform at the 4th edition of the North East India Festival. His sudden death has shocked fans across the region, prompting a high-level investigation by Assam Police.
