When it comes to haircare, many swear by expensive products, but Twinkle Khanna, relies on simple and often unconventional home remedies. In a recent video shared by Vogue India, the actress-turned-author revealed her unique ritual for achieving healthy, shiny hair.

Speaking about her glossy locks, Twinkle humorously said, “I think I treat my scalp like it’s a fridge and I dump everything on it – beer, dahi (curd), eggs, whatever. I learnt that from my mom (Dimple Kapadia), and it seems to be doing all right.”

Her light-hearted yet honest confession highlighted how natural ingredients like beer and eggs can actually work wonders for hair, a tradition she picked up directly from her mother.

More Than Just Haircare: Twinkle on Life Lessons

The video wasn’t just about beauty tips. Twinkle also shared candid snippets about her life and personality. She revealed that the one accessory she cannot live without is deodorant, joking that she feels incomplete without it.

She also reflected on a deeply transformative personal milestone, returning to university for her master’s degree and graduating at 50, a journey she described as one of her most life-changing experiences.

Dimple Kapadia’s Time-Tested Haircare Rituals

Twinkle Khanna’s mother, veteran actress Dimple Kapadia, has also long been admired for her luscious, shiny locks. In an earlier 2021 interview with Vogue India, Dimple opened up about the traditional practices and DIY recipes that have kept her hair strong despite years of professional styling.

She explained that oiling has been the foundation of her routine since childhood. “I oil my hair overnight, then get a head massage with a homemade pack of eggs (five whites and one whole egg) and a banana. I leave it on for 10-30 minutes and rinse with lukewarm water. The habit of oiling regularly has helped as I naturally have very dry and coarse hair.”

Dimple’s Secret Hair Oil Recipe

Beyond hair packs, Dimple also shared her personal hair oil recipe, which she believes is the true secret behind her glossy mane. Her blend uses almond oil and sandalwood oil as a base, enhanced with a mix of essential oils like rosemary, geranium, and lavender.

She considers this ritual a family legacy, saying, “This is what I’ll pass down to my grandchildren — oil your hair and do not colour it.”

The Onion Juice Secret for Stronger Hair

One of Dimple’s most interesting tips was about the benefits of onion juice for hair growth and strength. While she admitted that raw onion juice can be harsh and difficult to use, she recommended opting for modern onion extract oils now available in the market, which offer the same benefits in a gentler form.

Together, the beauty philosophies of Twinkle Khanna and Dimple Kapadia emphasise the importance of going back to basics. While the cosmetic industry is filled with chemical-laden products, the mother-daughter duo prove that natural ingredients, beer, eggs, bananas, oils and onion extracts can give equally, if not better, results.
