Nagpur traffic police has issued a detailed traffic plan ahead of Dhammachakra Pravartan Din on October 2. With lakhs of devotees expected to gather at Deekshabhoomi, several roads will remain closed or diverted from 9 am onwards to prevent congestion in the area.

Authorities have urged commuters to cooperate with the restrictions and use alternate routes to avoid inconvenience. They also advised people to plan their travel as traffic will be strictly monitored around the celebration site.

Roads To Remain Closed

Police have announced the complete closure of multiple stretches near Deekshabhoomi, as per the Times of India. These include both sides of the road from Kachipura Chowk to Matakacheri Chowk, Kachipura Chowk to Kalpana Building T-Point in Ramdaspeth, Matakacheri Chowk to Kripalani turning on Wardha Road, and Matakacheri Chowk to Neeri Road T-Point.

The stretch from Matakacheri Chowk to Laxmi Nagar Chowk and from Kachipura Chowk to Bajaj Nagar Chowk will also remain shut. However, the latter will be accessible only to city buses and state transport buses.

Other closures include the Bajaj Nagar to Laxmi Nagar Chowk route and the Ajni ROB to Kripalani Chowk stretch, with one part kept aside for parking of vehicles belonging to devotees.

Traffic Diversions For Smooth Flow

To ease movement, traffic police have set up several diversions. Vehicles moving from Dhantoli towards Bajaj Nagar will be redirected through Panchsheel Chowk, Jhansi Rani Square, Library Square, and Alankar Chowk.

Those coming from Wardha Road via Kripalani turning will be diverted through Ajni Metro Station and RPTS Road. Similarly, vehicles from Alankar Talkies Chowk heading towards Kachipura Chowk will now take the Shankar Nagar-University Library Chowk route.

Traffic from Lakshmi Nagar will pass through Aath Rasta Chowk, while motorists from Neeri T-Point will have to use RPTS Road and Ajni Chowk.

Parking Arrangements For Devotees

Reportedly, specific parking spots have been set up for devotees attending the event. These include Dharampeth Science College, Scientific Hall in Laxmi Nagar, Tarkunde Dharampeth High School Ground, Dharampeth College Ground, Bajaj Nagar Basketball Ground, Modern High School, NMC Laxmi Nagar Zone Office, Kripalani T-Point near Central Jail, and LAD College.

Residents within restricted zones or those needing access for work will be required to obtain special passes from the Sonegaon traffic division. In addition, the Police have also clarified that officers on duty can change or extend restrictions depending on real-time crowd movement.

Dhammachakra Pravartan Din And Its Significance

On October 14, 1956, Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, India’s first law minister and the principal architect of the Constitution, embraced Buddhism along with more than three lakh followers, leaving behind Hinduism. This historic moment is remembered as Dhammachakra Pravartan Din.

Although the conversion took place on October 14, the day is observed every year on Ashoka Vijayadashami (Dussehra). The main celebrations are held at Deekshabhoomi in Nagpur, the site where Dr. Ambedkar and his followers adopted Buddhism. Thousands of Buddhists gather in Nagpur each year to honour this landmark event of mass conversion.
