NEW DELHI: Condemning the allegations made against climate activist Sonam Wangchuk as “blatant lies”, Gitanjali Angmo, his wife and co-founder of Himalayan Institute of Alternatives Ladakh, said Tuesday that the narratives being built to project him as an “anti-national” were “totally baseless” and part of a “witch-hunt” aimed at weakening his movement for Sixth Schedule protections for Ladakh.Wangchuk was arrested under the stringent NSA in Leh on Friday for allegedly instigating protests on Sept 24 and shifted to a Jodhpur jail.Angmo said she had not been able to contact him and was yet to be provided with formal documents detailing the charges. “We will use the best legal system in the country to defend him and we will not rest till the truth has been established ,” she said.

Allegations are wrong, says Sonam’s wife

We openly challenge that whoever wants to debate with us on this issue we are ready to counter it with facts, evidence and the documents to prove that these allegations are wrong,” Gitanjali Angmo said at a press conference where she interacted with journalists in Delhi. She alleged that what was happening with Wangchuk was part of the “ongoing witch-hunt” that they have been facing for nearly four years and over the past one month in particular aimed at weakening the movement for Sixth Schedule for Ladakh. She said “baseless narratives” are being spread against Wangchuk though CBI and I-T officials were provided all documents.
