A seventy-five-year-old man who married a woman less than half his age in search of companionship was found dead the morning after his wedding in Kuchhmuchh village of Jaunpur district. The deceased, Sangruram, had lost his first wife a year ago and lived alone with no children, sustaining himself through farming. Despite his family’s advice against remarriage, he wed thirty-five-year-old Manbhavati from Jalalpur on September 29. The couple first registered their marriage in court before performing traditional rituals at a local temple.

Speaking after the ceremony, Manbhavati said her husband had told her she should “take responsibility for the household” while he would “take care of the children.” She added that the two spent much of their wedding night talking. By morning, however, Sangruram’s health deteriorated suddenly. He was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him dead.
