Durga Puja pandals across Mumbai came alive with colour, devotion, and glamour this Maha Ashtami. At the North Bombay Durga Puja pandal on September 30, Bollywood’s finest – Kajol, Rani Mukerji, and Twinkle Khanna – turned the celebration into a showcase of timeless Indian elegance. Dressed in rich silk sarees, the trio paid homage not just to the spirit of the festival, but also to India’s love for handwoven textiles and classic festive drapes. Each brought her own unique take to traditional dressing, balancing heritage with a touch of personal style.

Rani Mukerji in the Power of Red

Rani Mukerji chose the auspicious colour of Maa Durga, red, for her Ashtami ensemble. Her silk saree stood out with detailed gold work, from brocade patterns on the pallu to delicate scalloped lace along the borders. Styled in the traditional drape, the pallu swept the floor for added drama. Rani paired it with a bold V-neck blouse featuring subtle gold embroidery. Completing the look with statement gold jhumkis, a choker, and stacked bangles, she exuded festive radiance. Her glam, which included a sleek bun, red bindi, kohl-lined eyes, and dewy skin, brought a perfect balance of grace and tradition.

Kajol in Soft Mauve Tones

Kajol brought a softer, romantic palette to the celebrations in a mauve-pink tissue silk saree highlighted with gold embroidery and intricate patchwork. She styled it with a sleeveless blouse of the same shade, letting the craftsmanship of the fabric shine. Adding a modern twist, Kajol accessorised with oxidised silver earrings, red bangles, and gold kadhas, blending metallic accents effortlessly. A neatly styled top knot, radiant highlighter, and winged eyeliner tied her look together, reflecting her signature understated yet impactful festive style.

Twinkle Khanna in Fresh Green Hues

Twinkle Khanna opted for a refreshing burst of colour with a light green silk saree adorned with golden brocade motifs and lace embroidery. Dark green borders added depth, while her matching blouse, which came with vertical gold detailing, a raised collar, and a V-neckline, gave the look a contemporary edge. For accessories, Twinkle kept it elegant with gemstone-studded gold jhumkis. Her pulled-back bun, glossy lips, and soft pink blush complemented the saree’s vibrancy, striking a balance between traditional elegance and modern minimalism.
