The highly anticipated Vande Bharat Express Sleeper, designed to operate between long-distance cities, is set to launch next month, following the success of the Vande Bharat Express. There is considerable curiosity about whether the new sleeper variant will feature the same 16 coaches as its predecessor.

Dilip Kumar, Executive Director of Information and Publicity at the Ministry of Railways, stated that the first Sleeper Vande Bharat is being manufactured at the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai and will indeed have 16 coaches.

Similar to the Rajdhani Express, it will offer AC 1, AC 2, and AC 3 classes, accommodating up to 1,128 passengers. Designed for a top speed of 180 km/h, the train can have its number of coaches increased based on future requirements.

Given its long-distance operation, two train sets will be required simultaneously. One train is already stationed at Shakurbasti in Delhi, with the second nearing completion at ICF Chennai.

How Is It Different From The Current Vande Bharat?

The new addition to the Vande Bharat fleet will include sleeper coaches with First AC, two-tier, and three-tier sleeper berths, ensuring night travel comfort akin to air travel.

The Vande Bharat Sleeper will feature modern amenities such as soft lighting, automatic doors, bio-toilets, CCTV, LED screens, and contemporary interiors. Enhanced safety features include the Kavach system, a crash-proof design, and anti-climber technology.

Executive Class-Like Comfort In First AC

Just as Chair Car and Executive Class differ in Vande Bharat trains, First AC will stand out from Second and Third AC. Passengers can expect more comfortable berths, cushioned seats, and enhanced amenities.

Efforts are underway to provide flight-like services, including superior food and beverages. Additionally, these coaches will have a higher staff-to-passenger ratio for better service.
