A tragic incident occurred in Gurugram, adjacent to Delhi, where a 33-year-old software engineer killed his wife and then took his own life, the Gurugram Police said on Monday.

The events unfolded on Sunday between 3 pm and 3:30 pm at Tower 7 of Millennia-1 Society in Sector 37D. Before his death, the husband sent a video to his friends’ WhatsApp group, confessing to the murder. A friend in Bengaluru saw the disturbing footage and alerted the Gurugram police.

Police reports indicate that the couple had been married for three years and had no children. They had been residing in Gurugram for several years. The husband hailed from Prayagraj district in Uttar Pradesh, while the wife was from Asansol district in West Bengal.

The friend who received the video was only aware of the name of the society. He searched for the SHO of Sector 10 police station and reported the incident.

According to Gurugram Police spokesperson Sandeep Turan, the police received the information around 4 am. A team promptly arrived at the scene and found the flat locked from the inside. Upon breaking down the door, they discovered the couple dead in a room.

The woman’s body was found on the floor with injury marks on her neck, suggesting strangulation, while the husband’s body was hanging from a noose.

Investigators suspect that an argument may have precipitated the incident, although the couple’s family members informed the police that they were unaware of any marital disputes.

In the video sent to the group chat, the husband confessed to killing his wife, apologised, and then stated his intention to die by suicide. Unfortunately, by the time his friend saw the video and contacted the police, it was too late.
