At least 41 people were killed and around 100 others injured in a stampede at a political rally organised by actor Vijay’s TVK in Tamil Nadu’s Karur on Saturday.

Superstar and politician Vijay’s rally turned into chaos and a site of grief and tears after a deadly stampede broke out that claimed 41 lives. After the crowd dispersed, the visuals show the aftermath of the horrific tragedy.

The road was littered with torn clothes, slippers, posters, and other things carried by people. Notably, over 30,000 people came to attend Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) rally.

The images and videos emerging from Tamil Nadu’s Karur are upsetting. The rally was held at a 2 km stretch from the Karur-Trichy highway roundabout to the Karur-Erode highway on Saturday evening.

The death toll from the stampede has risen to 41, after a woman undergoing treatment at a hospital succumbed to her injuries.

Suguna, 65, a resident of Karur district who had been on ventilator support in the intensive care unit, passed away after failing to respond to treatment.

Among the deceased are 18 women, 13 men, five young girls, and five young boys, bringing the total to 41. So far, 34 victims are from the Karur district, two each from the Erode, Tiruppur, and Dindigul districts, and one from the Salem district.

Vijay Reacted To The Stampede

TVK Chief Vijay reacted to the Karur horror and said he was “heartbroken” and in “unbearable pain” following the stampede. “My heart is broken; I am in unbearable, indescribable pain and sorrow,” he wrote on X.

“I extend my deepest condolences and sympathies to the families of my dear brothers and sisters who lost their lives in Karur. I pray for the swift recovery of those receiving treatment in the hospital,” he added.
