A frantic four-hour search for a missing Class 4 student in Gorakhpur ended on a surprising note when police, aided by a sniffer dog, found the boy fast asleep inside his own house. The child, 10-year-old Lakshya Pratap Singh, had gone out to play around 5 pm on Wednesday but did not return, leading his worried family to suspect kidnapping, police said.

His grandfather, Sadanand Singh, lodged a complaint at Chiluatal police station, after which police circulated the boy’s photo across stations and WhatsApp groups, and began searches at bus stands and railway stations. With no sign of the child, the police summoned the dog squad.

“Tony,” a seven-year-old Doberman, was given Lakshya’s shirt to sniff. Within minutes, the dog rushed upstairs into the family’s home and began barking outside a locked room. Police broke open the door and found the boy curled up in a corner, fast asleep.

On being woken, Lakshya confessed he had hidden deliberately to avoid tuition since his homework was incomplete. The police said multiple teams had been deployed fearing abduction but the child was safely handed back to his family.
